My Year In Movies – 2014

(This is the second of a two-part series rating the books and movies I read and watched in 2014.)

Stuck In Love Movie Poster

My favorite of the movies I watched in 2014.

As I blogged January 2, I have compiled my list of all the books I read and all the movies I watched in 2014, and ranked them using a 5-star system. For a little more information on this, please see Friday’s post.

Like with my reading, I set a goal for the number of movies I watch and last year fell well short of that number. I strive to view at least 150 movies per year, but in 2014 only watched 74. For me, there usually is a low number of five-star movies, but with the number of four-star movies I watched last year, I was pleased with what I saw.

Below are the movies I watched in 2014. Again, these are not all movies that came out in 2014, but movies I saw for the first time last year. Also, my ratings do not indicate how well made the movies are. They are simply a reflection of how much I enjoyed them.

The scale:
* I liked absolutely nothing about this movie
** I really did not like much about this movie
*** I enjoyed the movie
**** I enjoyed the movie a great deal
***** I loved this movie

That said, here is the list for 2014:

* Movies

** Movies

*** Movies

**** Movies

***** Movies

What movies did you really enjoy seeing this past year?

  1. I think I’ve made my feelings on Black Dahlia clear (terrible), so no surprise to see it as a 1 star. Sad to see Hammet get that treatment. Was hoping it was decent. I may pass on it now.

I’m glad you dug Killer Joe. I love that movie. We should discuss the fried chicken scene sometime.
I enjoyed Veronica Mars quite a bit, but was disappointed that they basically just made a 90 minute episode set 10 years later. Didn’t feel like a movie.
Really looking forward to Nebraska. I’ve heard the filmmakers tried to convince Gene Hackman to come out of retirement for that one, but Bruce Dern is a damn fine second choice.

I don’t know much about Stuck In Love, but I was already planning to check it out because of Kristen Bell’s involvement. Guess I have even more reason to do so now.
